What this calculator measures
The illustration applies one month of interest at APR divided by 12, then subtracts the payment. It repeats until the balance is repaid, including a smaller final payment when needed. It assumes a fixed rate, consistent payments, no new borrowing and no fees.
For example, a $10,000 balance at 24% APR starts with about $200 in monthly interest under this simplified method. A $300 payment initially reduces principal by about $100. A lender may calculate interest daily or apply different rates to portions of a balance.
Use the result for a better question.
Compare a realistic extra payment with the money left after essential expenses. The tool does not include settlement fees, predict a creditor agreement or determine eligibility. A lower illustrated repayment cost is not a debt relief offer.
